Q: How
long has this site been operational?
A: CheckHouston.com was conceived in late 1999 and officially
formed in mid April. The site launched in June 2000. Visit our About
US section for more company information.
Q: I
did not find what I was looking for on your site, what should I do?
A: We are constantly adding new Houston web resources so please
check back often. If you are not satisfied with the results you receive
from a particular search, you can always drop
us a line and we will try to find the answer for you.
Q: Can
I do Boolean searches in your web directory?
A: Yes, you can do advanced lookups using our search engine.
For a list of basic commands read our Search
Help document.
Q: Why
is there sometimes a delay in showing the search results?
A: All queries through our directory and search engine are done
in real-time to ensure you get the most up-to-date Houston web listings.
There are no cached pages. Our search engine sifts through thousands
of records to find what you need, which normally takes only a few seconds.
Sometimes the Internet experiences heavy traffic, which will cause information
to be delivered to you at slower than normal rates.
Q: Why
aren't some popular resources listed in your directory?
A: There are only two criteria to being listed in our directory;
1) The resource must be based or have major operations in the Greater
Houston Area, and 2) The resource must have a web presence (i.e. a web
site). There are many Houston resources that provide great information
to the community, but for one reason or another do not have a web presence.
We hope these resources do come online, and invite these organizations
to contact us if they should need any assistance with web development.
Q: My
site is already listed, but how do I change the title or description?
A: CheckHouston.com has already indexed thousands of sites in
the Houston area. Our own staff compiled many of these sites. If you
notice inaccurate information in your listing, or would just like to
update the description and/or title, drop
us a line. Changes should take effect within one week from receipt
of your request.
Q: How
long does it take for my web page to show up in your directory?
A: Web sites submitted through our "Suggest
A Site" link on the homepage will be added to our database within
one week of receipt. Web sites submitted through our online
form can take up to (2) weeks. These timeframes are a worst case
scenario; most sites are added within 2 days.
Q: Can
I link to your homepage or put your search engine on my site?
A: Of course. We invite the Houston community to link to our
database freely. Detailed instructions are provided in our Link
To Us document. If you are still having trouble, drop
us a line.
Q: Can
I get my site listed in the Quick Links section on the homepage?
A: The left-hand Quick Links section on our homepage is reserved
for some of Houston's most popular and useful web sites. If you feel
that your site should be listed, send us the URL for review. Please
note, it is very hard to get listed here. If you would like homepage
space on CheckHouston.com, please read our Advertising
document, our rates our very reasonable, and we do get a lot of daily
traffic.
Q: Is
there a preferred browser to use when visiting CheckHouston.com?
A: Our browser recommendations (in order) are as follows: 1)
MS Internet Explorer, 2) Netscape Communicator. Monitor resolution should
be 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768.
Q: I
am coming to Houston soon; where should I stay, what should I do, where
should I eat?

no exception. You can't say you have actually been to a city without
saying that you visited at least a few of the most popular attractions.
Here are our top lists, along with some favorites
of the locals.
